MASC offers competitive training fees and well-run enjoyable sessions with qualified coaches that are inclusive of all in a relaxed environment. MASC also promotes the social aspect of the sport and operates with our swimmers’ wellbeing at the heart of what we do. Swimmers are encouraged to challenge themselves and not compare to each other to ensure they maximise their full potential. There is no pressure on our athletes to compete and every member and their family is welcomed into our MASC Family by the coaches and wider MASC community.

Our Pathway in the Club

We pride ourselves in having a pathway that swimmers can follow to do their very best in the sport whether this is performance, social or education-based. We cater to the requirements of our swimmers and allow choice in their development

Inclusive Environment

The club has great partnerships with Lothian Racers, Lothian Disability Sport and Scottish Disability Sport. Our Head Coach attends the East of Scotland Regional Disability Squad training programme every month. MASC offers an inclusive environment for all, is integral to the disability swimming pathway and welcomes all abilities to trial with the Club. Disabled swimmers are welcomed and supported. They are not treated differently (other than reasonable adjustments to sessions) and are fully integrated into the appropriate squad for their level of ability. MASC has experienced disability swimming personnel on its Committee and within its coaching team.

Opportunities for all levels and abilities

Once swimmers join MASC from Learn to Swim schools, swimmers and their parent/guardians are open to a wide range of opportunities with different training sets within squads, available courses, a mixture of levels of competitions etc.

After swimmers finish their training and competing, we have a young leaders programme with the aim to retain and train membership. The young leaders’ programme offers Poolside Helper (in conjunction with 2 senior coaches being Poolside Helper Educator trained), other disciplines in aquatic sport such as diving/water polo/artistic and Technical Official role

Performance Pathway (ELST)

MASC has a well established and positive working relationship with East Lothian Swim Team (ELST). ELST is an East Lothian based, invitation-only, swim team offering a Performance Development Programme for talented swimmers from Musselburgh, Haddington and Tranent swimming clubs.

Selected swimmers must first satisfy ELST’s selection criteria and continue to maintain acceptable levels of physical, behavioural and performance standards to remain within the programme and progress along their performance pathway.

MASC provides a critical link by developing swimmers joining from our grass root feeder partnerships (Learn to Swim) through to our top squads with a proportion meeting the tough standards required by ELST.

ELST, also accredited with SwiMark Plus, offers one of Scotland’s most successful programmes – producing swimmers at National and International levels such as Mark Tully, James Clegg and Stephen Clegg.

ELST’s experienced and qualified coaches are highly versed in tailoring their approach to meet the needs of their swimmers as they mature, grow and evolve into well-rounded athletes thus offering them a perfect environment from which to reach their full potential.

Our alliance with ELST also means we are provided with additional opportunities to enhance the CPD skills of our coaches and poolside helpers.
